History
Dating back to the post civil war era, The Old Village originally served as wealthy Charlestonians’ summer residence. To escape the rising heat on the peninsula, downtown Charleston residents of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s flocked to this area of Mt. Pleasant to find eastern breezes from the Cooper River and a quiet place to call home for a few months out of every year. During this time, The Old Village flourished and became the epicenter of the town of Mt. Pleasant and eventually, people began populating the area and making the neighborhood their primary residence. Today, many of the original homes not only still stand, but have been restored to maintain the history of yesterday and to accommodate for the modern lifestyle of today.
