The Peninsula of Charleston, SC is the greater area of downtown Charleston, an area of history, elegance and an active lifestyle. This more fast-paced area is where the College of Charleston, one of a kind roof top dining and a view of Fort Sumter from the park are all located. The market is a huge attraction where vendors sell anything you can want, and contrary to popular belief was never a slave exchange. The Battery is the park located at the tip of the Peninsula with upscale homes, beautiful views and statues of important Civil War heroes.
Known as the Holy City, downtown Charleston because of the many churches that can be found here. Some still feature their original architecture but many have been remodeled after hurricanes destroyed their structure. First Baptist Church is the oldest Baptist church in the south organized around 1693 on 61 Church Street.
Other attractions include the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, the South Carolina Aquarium, and of course the fine seafood dinning. The Arthur Ravenel Bridge is the longest cable-stay bridge in the country and is a sight to see at night when the lights hit the cables over the water. Some of the most popular elegant restaurants include 82 Queen, Poogans Porch, and Slightly North of Broad. For a more moderate dinning experience FIG, Hyman’s and Virginia’s on King are always a great place to experience Charleston’s cuisine.
