North Charleston, SC was chosen to receive a silver award for Municipal Excellence from the National League of Cities. Recently the city has gained international importance with the arrival of Boeing Aircraft. This is one of only four places in the world for the manufacture and assembly of wide-body commercial aircraft.
There are many parks and some of the country’s finest golf courses in North Charleston. Some of the popular past-times include hunting, fishing, historical tours and resort opportunities around the area.
The North Charleston Performing Arts Center is a popular venue for performers in the Charleston area. Some famous performers include David Gray, Jerry Seinfeld, and Sheryl Crow. Other attractions and historical sites include the H.L. Hunley Museum, and the Greater Charleston Naval Memorial.
The H.L. Hunley Museum is a guided tour of the sunken H.L. Hunley submarine. The submarine was used in the Civil War by the Confederates and played a huge role in the history of naval warfare. This was the first combat submarine to sink an enemy warship but has lost 21 crewmen throughout its lifetime.
The Greater Charleston Naval Memorial can be found at Riverfront Park on the old Navy Yard. This is a tribute to the thousands of men and women who served their country and even the civilians who labored at the base for 95 years before it closed.
Park Circle is a popular neighborhood in North Charleston, founded in the early 1900’s making this one of America’s first planned communities. Today Park Circle is a great family neighborhood with features such as the Disc Golf course and the Olde North Charleston Picture House sending you back to a more simple time.
