Life Around the Charleston Area
Life Around Charleston
Daniel Island is a small island off of Charleston situated between the Cooper and Wando Rivers. The island was awarded the Urban Land Institute’s 2007 “Award for Excellence” because of its fast growth and unique suburban life. This is a close knit community with top amenities including ships, restaurants, churches, a private country club and world-class medical and sport facilities. Daniel Island is just a short drive from downtown, Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms.
Known by locals as “The Edge of America,” Folly Beach provides an escape from everyday living less than thirty minutes from Downtown Charleston, SC. Residents of this ‘destination vacation-spot’ intermingle with the year-round tourists, contributing to the overall easy-going-good-time Folly Beach vibe.
The island mostly attracts college students to young adults because of their alcohol policy: they allow it.
Of course no glass is allowed, but if you want to spend your sunny afternoon in a laid back environment this is the place for you. The local restaurants are no exception to the mellow vibe that surrounds the island.
Isle of Palms
Isle of Palms is a relaxing, family-friendly beach community on the northernmost barrier island of Charleston. This is a popular vacation spot because of its abundance in activities, dining and night life. Opposite from Folly Beach, Isle of Palms is very family oriented and enforces strict rules such as no alcohol on the beach and no fireworks, camping, bonfires or littering. These rules make the island a safe, clean and upscale family get-away.
This quaint area outside of downtown Charleston known as James Island is filled with running creeks and ancient live Oak Trees. This is also a heavily family oriented area with the James Island County Park where kids from all ages can find something fun to do. The park also hosts Movies in the Park throughout the summer and is a great family event that everyone enjoys.
One of the barrier island off the coast of Charleston, Johns Island is known for its organic farms, beautiful landscape and its famous live Oak Tree, Angel Oak. This is a peaceful place to raise children, retire or just enjoy a quiet life-style filled with beautiful landscape.
Sullivan’s Island is a historic and charming island off of Mount Pleasant. Sullivans has been a long-time retreat for locals and tourist alike. Travel and lifestyle magazines have continuously ranked this beach get-away as one of the best places to live and vacation in the country.
West Ashley is one of cities oldest suburbs and its close proximity to downtown Charleston makes it one of the most desired locations for home buyers. Boating is a popular past-time as the area features many deep-water homes on the Ashley River. This town is also home to some of the oldest landscaped gardens, Middleton Place Plantation and Charles Towne Landing.
