Johns Island Real Estate
Johns Island is a barrier island just across the Stono River, located to the west of James Island and to the east of Wadmalaw Island, both barrier islands. Over one-third of the island is in the city limits of Charleston, South Carolina. The island is home to the Angel Oak, a 1400 year old Southern live oak tree. The population of Johns Island is growing because of its proximity to Charleston.
The 2000 census reported a total of 11,477. The other major population center is the town of Seabrook Island, which is not on a separate island, but on a peninsula at the extreme south of Johns Island. The island has a land area of 216.83 km² (83.72 sq mi). Johns Island is also known as the second largest island on the east coast of the United States.
