The South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (“SCE&G”) is a subsidiary of the SCANA Corporation. Charleston and the state of South Carolina is serviced by this regulated electric and natural gas company, who services residential homes, small/ medium size businesses, industrial and commercial companies. If you are new to Charleston, signing up with SCE&G is as simple as going online, create and account, and submit secured, personal information needed to get you started. The information needed includes:

  • Complete address
  • Phone number
  • Spouse’s name
  • Social Security number for you and your spouse
  • Driver’s license number
  • Primary contact person and phone number
  • Proof of ID which can include birth certificate or passport

If you don’t have internet access, call 1-800-251-7234. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and your call will answered quickly and efficiently. To report any outages, you can report it online or call 1-888-333-4465 and if there is an emergency gas problem, call 1-800-815-0083.

Beneficial services offered by SCE&G includes The Electric Weather Normalization Adjustment (“eWNA”) program. The eWNA program saves businesses and residents energy costs by adjusting electric and gas usage during extreme cold and hot months. During these temperature changes, Charleston SCE&G customers are only charged for the energy rates they would normally use. Programs like the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a way for Charleston to provide energy assistance to its low income residents so that they are provided year round heat and cool air, when needed.

A new start up feature is the new CWS online service. There will be a one time new customer activation charge for the CWS water account and sewer account. New property and residential customers will need the following to begin their services:

  • Full name and billing/property address
  • Social Security number
  • Daytime and evening phone number
  • The date you would like service to be turned on
