The Lowcountry’s 2013 Taste of Charleston Event

Grits aren’t the only food on the menus, even though they are delectably prepared throughout Charleston, South Carolina. Whether you want “Shuck’s” oysters and crab soup or the Caviar and Bananas’ sushi, Charleston is the city where you come to dine casually or in a high top environment. Every month, Charleston is hosting family and artistic specials that bring people back year after year. Not only does Charleston offer tropical beaches, varied lifestyles, shopping and cultural events, it also features award winning celebrations, like the Southern Living Taste of Charleston.

The Southern Living Taste Schedule:

The Taste of Charleston is a three day dining event, which takes place September 27 – 29, 2013, at 10:30 am, each day, at the following location:

  • Boone Hall Plantation
  • 1235 Long Point Road
  • Mount Pleasant, SC 29464

This culinary event is marking its 33rd Anniversary and is hosted by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association. This is a ticketed event, which cost $17.50 in advance and $25.00 on the day of the event.

The Taste of Charleston celebrates the Lowcountry’s many cuisines from over 50 amazing restaurants. This culinary showcase will also feature a waiter’s wine race, musical celebrities, events for children, a beer garden, and exhibits showcasing Charleston and the surrounding communities. The Southern Living Taste of Charleston has a humanitarian theme, where portions of its proceeds are given to local charities. The charities for 2013, include Shriners Hospital for Children, Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center, Hollings Cancer Center, The Ronald McDonald House, and Hospitality Heroes.

The Taste of Charleston Itinerary:

  • Friday, September 27, 2013 – The location event is at the Cottage on the Creek on Shem Creek. The Cottage features gazebos and an amazing view of the Charleston Harbor. The Cottage is a popular venue for weddings and special Charleston celebrations. The event is titled “Sweet & Southern on Shem Creek.” Charleston caterers will be dishing up deliciousness, as people enjoy singer/songwriter stage performances.
  • Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28th – people are invited to walk around to various downtown Charleston dining venues, thus it is called “Taste of Charleston Dine Around.” This event is open to the public without tickets.
  • Saturday, September 28th – “The Iron Chef Competition” is held at the Culinary Institute of the Palmer Campus. Local Charleston chefs, who are already acclaimed in their own rights, will go head to head in the Institute’s state-of-the-art kitchen. Like the TV version of Iron Chef, these cooking experts will be given a surprise ingredient to use in preparation of 4 dishes.
  • Sunday, September 29th – The Boone Hall Plantation tasting event is the culmination of this Lowcountry cuisine dining special. On this day, casual and fine dining restaurants in Charleston County will feature their fares, along with great drinks and music.

Residents and visitors are also invited to stop by the “Southern Living Pavilion,” for sample recipes, giveaways, contest gifts, culinary products, books for sale and more.
