Josh and Danielle and their three kids, Ryder (5), Wyatt (8), Piper (2) journeyed from the West Coast because of their love for Charleston. 1. How long have you lived in Charleston?
We moved to Charleston this past November from the Silicon Valley in California. We fell in love with the city after visiting for vacation!
2. Where are you from originally?
D: I’m from California and Josh is from Indiana. We have no relatives here, just came out for fun and thought it was pretty awesome.
J: I went to school at the University of Florida and then picked up a friend when we graduated in 1999 who was at the Culinary Institute here. I remember how awesome it was then so it always stuck in my brain. When we saw Conde Nast ranked it as the number one city we came to visit in 2014 and 2016.
3. What was the home search like?
D: We did some research online when we were still in California…
D: It was kind of confusing so we shelved it for a little but it was always on our brain. We found Melissa and her and I hit it off immediately. She knew exactly what we were looking for, always kept us abreast of what was going on. I met with Melissa Rollins, her assistant, when I came on vacation the second time just to look around. We saw this house online, it had just come on the market and Melissa was awesome to take us through the house on a FaceTime tour. With photos, you just never know so that was helpful with us being in California. She literally walked us through every room, every drawer, every closet so we got a very good idea. I just knew this was the house. It’s funny, I never saw the house in person until we turned the key and walked in the first day. …Melissa was really, I mean, so helpful through this really kind of strange process when you’re coming from so far. She made is so comfortable, answered every question. She was amazing.
4. Did you renovate or take on any home improvement projects after moving in?
D : Nope, just got a couple of rocking chairs.. we really did nothing!
J : Made a long list of restaurants we needed to go to and just began soaking in Charleston.
5. What is your favorite spot in your new home?
J : The screened in porch in the back and the front porch. We sit on the rocking chairs out there.
D : Yeah the porch has been really fun for all of us to just have friends over to hang out and the backyard is key. The playroom is also really important for the kids, we do a lot of movies up there. We really like all of the house. And for us, our master is our nice little retreat. It’s a special place.
