Cassina Client Spotlight: The Faw Family

Drew and Jared Faw were on the search for the perfect Charleston house to make their home.  With a very specific idea of what they were looking for, Cassina agent Caroline Perkins scoured the area to find the perfect home for her clients and friends.  When a new house on James Island hit the market, she knew it was the one.  Read on to learn more about their home search process!

What was the home search like?

Jared: We looked at a lot of houses.  We looked everywhere. We just couldn’t find anything that really fit what we were both looking for.  Caroline called me one day during work and said: “I think I found the house. Can you come over here right now?”

Drew: This neighborhood wasn’t even on our radar.

Jared: So I came and looked at it.  And [Drew] just trusted me. We put in an offer that day.  We had it under contract that night. It was probably even 2 weeks before Drew saw it [in person].  It had 90% of all of the items we were looking for.

What were the key selling points of this home?

Jared: I really like the layout.  I like having the master on [one] end because it is separate from the rest of the house.  We were looking for something larger, something we could stay in for a relatively long time.  We wanted something we could renovate ourselves so we had to find something in a certain price point where we could still afford to make all the renovations.

What was your experience working with Caroline like?

Jared: I thought it was great.  We’ve known Caroline for a long time so it was just easy.  She knew our style.

Drew:  I appreciated that she took what we had to say at heart and really found what worked.  Quick response to things…not letting things drag out. It had some urgency. There were a bunch on showings happening the next day, and she was honest with us about that.

Did you renovate or take on any home improvement projects after moving in?

Drew: When we moved in, we knew we wanted to do some renovating.  So we gutted the master and then the rest of the house we painted and did facelift type things.  Jared’s very handy. He made the built-in for the TV with the shiplap.

Jared: And the “she shed”!

Drew: We changed out all of the faceplates for light switches to white.  And all of the hardware–hinges and door knobs. Everything consistent throughout the whole house.

Jared: We painted the entire house.

Drew: You can do a lot with paint.  The kitchen is our next renovation project.  For the time being, we painted all of the cabinets and changed the hardware which made a huge difference.

What is your favorite spot in your new home?

Drew: I’m always in the living room.

Jared: I spend all the time in the back, in the man cave.

What are your favorite things to do in the area or neighborhood?

Drew: We live really close to Wappoo Boat Landing so that was a big plus for us.

Jared: Compared to Mount Pleasant, we have multiple boat landings that are within a couple of miles from the house so it makes getting in the water pretty accessible.

Drew: We got out to Folly Beach a lot.

Jared: It’s so much faster for us to get downtown too.  That’s another big point about living right here. I really think that since we’ve moved here, we go eat and do stuff downtown more than we ever did.
