When Mary Beth Richardson decided she wanted to sell her South of Broad condo and relocate to another part of the city, her first call was to REALTOR Elizabeth Ramsay Dickinson at The Cassina Group. Originally from North Carolina, Mary Beth has called Charleston home since 1995. She works for the Port of Charleston, so being close to downtown was important in a new home.
After beginning her search with Elizabeth, she quickly honed in on the South Windermere section of West Ashley. With its close proximity to the historic downtown peninsula (and abundance of walkable local shops and restaurants), it was the perfect spot for Mary Beth and her adorable four-year old pup Weezy–offering some of the city-feel with the added bonus of suburban perks such parking and a backyard.
What motivated you to move?
I lived in my South of Broad condo for sixteen years. It was a fixer upper and I loved it but it was two bedrooms, one and a half baths. It was really small. I was just ready for a yard and some more space. [My new house] flows really well for visitors and for entertaining [and] it’s still very close to downtown.
What was the home search like?
Working with Elizabeth was great! Elizabeth is not pushy; she just gives you your time (which I really needed). I had been thinking about [making a move] for a long time. And it was was a hot market so it was a little bit tricky in that I needed to sell my place before I could put an offer in on another place. And I’m very particular. But [Elizabeth] was calm the entire time, very helpful. She was like “It’s going to all work out.” And it did! And I couldn’t be happier.
What were the key selling points of this home?
I’m really specific. I was [originally] more interested in Old Windermere than South Windermere because I like the architecture a little more. But this house was on a creek. The kitchen, the floor plan, the yard, the view [were all selling points]. I feel like it had everything. Everything that was redone was done really well; and everything that needs to be done I can tackle over time.
What is your favorite spot in your new home?
The dock. I go out there and read. And then all my friends go out there and we have cocktails. Its really fantastic.
What are your favorite things to do in the area or neighborhood?
I love to walk to Normandy Farms on a Saturday morning and bring the dog. But I like every single place in South Windermere. I go to EarthFare almost every day on my way home from work. Even though I was downtown, this is almost a little more convenient than before.
