Lindsey and Corey Bishop recently relocated to Charleston from Tuscon, Arizona. A wedding planner and police officer, they wanted a few specific things out of their move. How long have you lived in Charleston?
We moved here in January 2016 and then we moved into our house in March. We moved from Tucson, Arizona! We had a convoy of two cars and a big trailer.
What motivated you to move?
L: There’s a huge list of reasons. I’m from New York originally and moved to Arizona when I was 12. I really missed the green landscapes and being by the ocean. All of the historic architecture and the history that the East Coast has…drew us in.
C: I wanted a change of pace and outdoor activities. There’s no where better than Charleston for Lindsey’s business and I can still go fishing so it’s perfect for both of us! Also, we love food!
What was the home search like?
L: It was pretty crazy. I used to be in the mortgage business and I love real estate. I kind of got it from my mom; she’s big into looking at the MLS to what things are listed for when on vacation. So, I was probably looking at the Charleston MLS for 12 months before we actually moved here. But it’s hard to really know what the areas are like. Things are so different now; you can get on Google Maps and virtually drive up and down the streets which helps a lot.
This was the third house we put an offer on. We ended up having to come here the day it went on the market to put in an offer and it went into multiples. We paid over asking price but we loved the neighborhood so much.
MT did a phenomenal job! She was basically on-call because of our price range. If there was a house available in our range and you didn’t go see it within 24 hours, you could forget about it. She was really great and totally made the difference. We would have never gotten this house if she hadn’t been so available. We love MT!
What were the key selling points of this home?
L: We love renovating and doing projects. However, we completed a big renovation in our last house and are kind of burnt out by it. So, this time we wanted to be in a house that we could put our own personal touch on but didn’t have to do anything major right away. In our price range, there were a lot of things that we wanted but just weren’t seeing in other houses. A fireplace, a garage, and separate spaces. No open floor plans.
What are your favorite things to do in the area or neighborhood?
L: I love Avondale Wine & Cheese. Whenever I get the opportunity, I always meet clients and vendors there for appointments. We also love The Glass Onion and Swig and Swine which are right down the street from us. Also, we are only eight minutes from downtown, one reason we picked this house. We did not want to be super far from downtown.
