History

Location

As the name denotes, this historically rich area is located south of Broad Street, on the tip of the Charleston Peninsula.  Bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers, one can see where the two rivers meet before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean.  Many homes South of Broad offer spectacular water views, while the entire neighborhood utilizes the coastal breezes coming off the water.












Education

This neighborhood is zoned for Charleston’s metro public school system, and within just a few miles there are a number of independent elementary, middle, and high schools.  Notables include Ashley Hall, a K-12 college preparatory school for girls, and Porter Gaud, a K-12 college preparatory school for both girls and boys.

Amenities

Because South of Broad is a public area of downtown Charleston, there is no HOA fee.  Public amenities include the renowned White Point Gardens in Battery Park, a public garden since 1837.  Here, one can view historic mortars and cannons from the Civil War, as well as a spectacular vista over the water, with views of Fort Sumter and the Charleston Harbor.  Also in this area is East Bay Playground, offering playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, and playing fields accessible to the public.
