Nicknames include the Holy City, for the many steeples visible above the low-rise buildings of its city, and the Palmetto City, for the Caribbean aspect of an abundance of palmetto trees lining the area. During the hot summer months, people like to take trips through Mt Pleasant, SC to the beaches of Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms/Wild Dunes or in the opposite direction through James Island to Folly Beach.
