Awendaw, SC

Life in Awendaw, SC

Awendaw is a small town fishing town outside of Charleston with an approximate population of 1,195. It is located on the edge of the Francis Marion National Forest which is halfway between Mount Pleasant and McClellanville. Here you can find the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and the Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center.

Camping is a popular past-time because of the close proximity to the Francis Marion National Forest. Other popular activities include fishing, boating and crabbing on the tidal creek or Intracoastal Waterway. Crabbing is so common that it is one of the towns main economic resources.

Lots here are usually very spacious with beautiful views of the water and wildlife. Sunsets here are breath-taking and nicely compliment the scenery. View our Awendaw home for sale.

Awendaw has an interesting history like most of Charleston, but this cities history goes back to the Native Americans. The city was named by the Sewee tribe and is still home to an oyster shell mound created by the tribe people and known as "The Spanish Fort".
